The Lagos State Government on Sunday officially unveiled the Red Line Rail invitational passenger operations.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu did the unveiling in a statement on X, saying that this achievement represents a major advancement in reshaping public transportation in Lagos, bringing residents closer to a modern, efficient and interconnected city.
“The Red Line will operate four daily trips between Oyingbo and Agbado. This essential route will not only facilitate commuting for thousands but also alleviate congestion and enhance the quality of life for our residents,” he said.
“Morning departures from Oyingbo will begin at 8:30 AM, making stops at key stations such as Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, before arriving at Agbado by 9:37 AM.
“The trains will adhere strictly to their schedules, ensuring order and efficiency in our rail services.
“This initial passenger operation allows the government to continually assess the system’s safety, reliability, and efficiency, while gathering valuable feedback from passengers.
“This is a crucial step towards full commercial operations in Lagos State. Once fully operational, the Red Line is anticipated to run 20 trips daily, accommodating over 500,000 passengers each day.
“This rail line is more than just transportation; it’s a vital link that connects the communities in Lagos and drives economic growth.”
