Lagos reintroduces 25% off-peak fare discount on train service

The Lagos State Government has reintroduced the 25 percent off-peak fare discount on its train service

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to reintroduce the 25 percent off-peak fare discount on its train service.

The Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Abimbola Akinajo made the announcement this weekend.

Akinajo said there will be a 25 percent discount fare for commuters during the off-peak period between 10:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m daily.

Additionally, she said the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will from Monday, August 12, 2024 increase its number of trips from 54 to 72 per day.

However, according to her, the current schedule for Sunday operations will remain the same.

Akinajo also announced that Blue Line train riders will now travel between Marina and Mile 2 in just about 18 minutes, down from the previous travel time of 25 minutes.

She said what this means is that there will be a train every 18 minutes both ways, allowing commuters to plan their trips more efficiently.

“The new train schedule is expected to reduce journey times, encourage more riders to use the train system during off-peak periods and reduce transport spending,” Akinajo said.

“The new timetables are available on the LAMATA website, at stations and on social media handles.

The Blue Rail Line commenced passenger operations on September 4, 2023 and has since commuted about two million passengers.
