Flood: Lagos dedicated to supporting Borno, says Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it is dedicated to supporting Borno State which was recently struck by flood.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said this following his visit to his Borno State counterpart, Babagana Zulum.

“Today, I joined the governors of Ondo, Adamawa and Kwara States on a visit to Borno State to extend our support to Governor Babagana Zulum in light of the tragic flooding in Maiduguri,” Sanwo-Olu wrote on X.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by this disaster.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Maiduguri and commend the ongoing rescue efforts.

“The community’s resilience is truly inspiring and Lagos remains dedicated to offering our support in every possible way.”

Sanwo-Olu in the post on his verified X account lamented that the extent of the flooding in Maiduguri is truly devastating.

The governor advised that as a nation, it is important that everyone comes together to provide relief, assist in rescue operations and ensure that those affected receive the necessary aid.

The Borno State Government, meanwhile, has established two relief camps to assist individuals who were affected by flood.

This was disclosed by security expert, Zagazola Makama in a post he shared on his X account on Wednesday.

“Due to recent flooding in the metropolis, Borno State has established two relief camps to assist affected individuals,” Makama said.

“The BAKASI camp, managed by Ali, Director of Planning at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is expected to accommodate approximately 10,000 families.

“The DALORI camp will be overseen by Dr. Barkindo, DG of SEMA (07066307878).”

As for relief efforts, Makama said the Borno State Committee on Flood is actively engaged in addressing the situation, focusing on evacuation, provision of relief materials and long-term mitigation strategies.
