Fire has gutted the LG office in Lagos, destroying property worth millions of naira

A devastating fire on Sunday gutted the LG office in Abule Osun, Trade Fair, Lagos, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The Lagos State Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the sad incident in a statement, saying it occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received distress calls through its emergency lines at approximately 00:15 hours.

He said they immediately activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plan to try and put out the fire.

“Upon arrival at the scene at about 00.40hrs, it was discovered that fire was raging at the LG office located at the above address,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

“The fire spread throughout the entire warehouse, affecting equipment, small forklifts, household goods and electronics worth hundreds of millions of naira.”

The LASEMA Permanent Secretary said they are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire but the operation to put it out was being coordinated alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to prevent further spread.

“LASEMA has also activated the fire unit to support the operation with several additional fire appliance trucks for a quick intervention,” he said.

“No fatalities or injuries in the incident but the fire has escalated to the entire premises, the operation is still ongoing.

“All the responders and the entire staff of LG have been relocated outside the premises for safety reasons.

“More fire trucks have been activated and are being expected while the Nigerian Army and the Police are also at the scene.”
