Your death brought me unbearable pain, Mohbad’s widow pens emotional tribute

Wunmi, the widow of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has penned an emotional tribute honouring their time together, stating that the singer’s passing has brought her unbearable pain.

The rapper and songwriter died under mysterious circumstances on 12th September 2023. A Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, established by the Lagos State Government, is working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

Key witnesses summoned by the court include Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley; Samson Eletu, alias Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo; Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade; the nurse who allegedly treated the deceased singer during this period, Feyisayo Ogedengbe; and the driver who transported him to the hospital, Fidelis Esanbor.

In a tribute shared on her Instagram story on Thursday, Wunmi, who shares a son, Liam, with the singer, expressed that she will never come to terms with Mohbad’s death.

She wrote: “Ilerioluwa mi, Husband of my youth, my best friend! It’s been a year today — a year since you left me and our Liam in this cold world. It’s been so hard. I miss you so much. Liam misses you too. I wish you were here to see him; you would have been an incredible father. I still don’t know how I’ve survived without you.

“God, I wish you were here every single day — every millisecond of the day. Your passing brought me unbearable pain, but it has also shaped me. I’ve learned so much, and I’m still learning. I’ll never be okay with you not being here; it messes with my head. I keep thinking it’s a nightmare I’ll wake up from, but 366 days have passed, and I haven’t. Oko mi, we had so many plans together, and you had so much more to give to this world. It hurts deeply to know that all our dreams, everything you worked so hard for, are now gone with you.

“I want you to know that Liam and I are holding on to the strength and love you gave us. Every day, I see pieces of you in him—your kindness, your smile, your spirit. I promise to raise him with the same love and care you would have given him, keeping your memory alive in every step of his life. But today, I choose to celebrate you. Today, I choose to honour your legacy. Today, I choose to give all glory to God for blessing me with you, Ilerioluwa. Today, I choose to be grateful for the gift of Liam—the beauty of our ashes.

“My love, I pray for your soul today. I ask that God forgive you for all your shortcomings and welcome you to rest at His right hand. I hope it’s always a celebration up there for you. I love you so much. Thank you for Liam—I’m forever grateful for the gift of him! Fly high with the angels, love of my life.”

Don Jazzy Sparks Conversation on Paternity and Cultural Traditions

Renowned music producer and entrepreneur, Don Jazzy, recently sparked a conversation on social media when he stated that DNA tests are more important than naming ceremonies.

In a tweet, Don Jazzy emphasized the significance of DNA tests in establishing paternity and ensuring that children are raised by their biological fathers. He argued that this is more crucial than the traditional naming ceremony, which is a significant cultural practice in many African societies.

Don Jazzy’s statement generated a lot of debate and discussion on social media, with some people agreeing with his views and others opposing them.

Those who supported Don Jazzy’s statement argued that DNA tests are essential in preventing cases of paternity fraud and ensuring that children receive the correct genetic and medical information.

On the other hand, those who opposed Don Jazzy’s statement argued that naming ceremonies are an important part of African cultural heritage and should not be diminished or replaced by DNA tests.

They also pointed out that DNA tests are not foolproof and can be inconclusive or inaccurate in some cases.

The conversation sparked by Don Jazzy’s statement highlights the complexities and nuances of cultural traditions and modern technology.

While DNA tests can provide valuable information about paternity and genetic heritage, they should not be seen as a replacement for cultural traditions and practices that hold significant meaning and value for communities.
