MTN, Africa’s telecommunications giant, has resumed its nationwide operations after a temporary shutdown on Tuesday, following customer backlash and vandalism of its properties.
The company announced its return to operations via social media on Wednesday.
The network provider revealed that its physical shops would be open to customers from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
MTN also assured customers that its digital channels would be available 24/7 to provide support.
“Y’ello customer, please note that our shops nationwide will be open today, 31 July. Operating hours: 8.00 am-3:00 pm. We are also available 24/7 to support you via digital channels,” the operator said.
The shutdown occurred after thousands of subscribers who failed to link their SIM cards to their National Identification Numbers (NINs) were unable to access their phone lines over the weekend.
The resulting outrage led to vandalism of MTN properties and a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to restore all affected lines.
