Industry commends N70,000 minimum wage, 3-year review agreement

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) says it supports the recent agreement establishing a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the country.

The ACCI President, Emeka Obegolu, said in a statement on Friday, that the agreement to review workers’ wages every three years instead of five years was also a welcomed development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government and organised labour agreed on July 18 to a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers after careful deliberations.

Obegolu appreciated the constructive dialogue and mutual understanding demonstrated by all parties involved in the negotiation.

“The ACCI recognises the diligent efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the labour leaders in establishing a new minimum wage of N70,000.

“This agreement marks progress towards fairer wages and improved employee living standards.

“The collaborative spirit shown throughout this process is a testament to our leadership’s commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian workforce.’’

The ACCI boss expressed the Chamber’s commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that promote sustainable economic growth and enhance the business environment in Nigeria.

“We believe that while the new minimum wage may not completely solve workers’ immediate economic challenges, it is a crucial step in the right direction.

“As the leading voice for the business community in Abuja, the chamber reaffirms its dedication to working closely with the government, labour unions and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and future improvements of this policy.

“Together, we will continue to strive towards a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” he said.
